Domestic Abuse, Coercive Control & Sexual Violence

While I can provide psychotherapy for a variety of issues, my area of specialism is working with

victim-survivors of domestic abuse, coercive control and sexual violence.

My practice is based on feminist psychotherapy principles.

The therapy will prioritise your physical and emotional safety and go at a pace that is right for you.

It is important to remember that you are not to blame and you are not responsible for the abuse.

Your safety is paramount - when contacting me please me know the safest method and days/times to contact you.

My specialist experience and knowledge of this field comes from working therapeutically with survivors of:
Domestic Abuse
Domestic Violence
Coercive Control
So-called Honour-Based Violence
FGM
Childhood sexual abuse
Adult survivors of rape, sexual assault and rape as weapon of war.

In addition, I have also:
Worked in women's refuges, supporting women and children who have fled abuse
Worked for Welsh Women's Aid in the training department
Written and taught undergraduate feminist theory lectures

  Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse includes, but is not limited to:

Coercive control - a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation and control with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence.

Psychological and/or emotional abuse

Physical abuse

Sexual abuse

Financial or economic abuse

 Harassment and stalking

Online or digital abuse

Post-separation abuse

Sexual Violence
Without consent, any kind of sexual activity is sexual violence.

Consent means: agreeing by choice and having both the freedom and capacity to make that choice.

See Rape Crisis England & Wales for more information

Coercive Control

Coercive control is an act or a pattern of acts of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation or other abuse that is used to harm, punish, or frighten their victim.

This controlling behaviour is designed to make a person dependent by isolating them from support, exploiting them, depriving them of independence and regulating their everyday behaviour.

Feminist Psychotherapy

I am a trans-inclusive intersectional feminist which means I recognise the multiple and intersecting ways cis and trans women can be oppressed.

My practice is based on feminist psychotherapy principles:

- The therapeutic relationship is collaborative

- Women's voices and experiences are honoured

- The personal is political

- Commitment to social change

- Empowering women

- Recognising the institutional and system barriers that oppress and discriminate minorites
